Founding Livery Companies of London. Each Livery Company (guild)
had a Coat of Arms with associated colours. People associated
with these companies were originally servants of a lord. The
lord's retainers were to be given board, lodging, and clothing
(livery). If personnel associated with two or more lords mixed
in streets, the retainers could be distinguished by the clothing
colours of their livery (and identified).
